Picasso creates this picture in 1810.

He wrote this creation in the style of cubism (its analytical type). Such cubism still bears the characteristic name of volumetric. The whole image consists of separate parts. Each fragment is separated from each other and fancifully dispersed throughout the space of the entire canvas. It seems that this is a broken mirror made up of fragments of different sizes. But in this recently broken mirror you can still guess the shape of the man who looked at him not so long ago.

The artist depicts a very famous person in Paris. He traded all kinds of works of art. In this portrait, you can guess the incredibly accurate image of Vollard. In his clothes we feel a little scruple: a snow-white shawl peeks out of his pocket. It is known that Vollard was really incredibly elegant.

The viewer is confronted with a separate face. It consists of planes of geometric type, which require a mandatory intellectual understanding of this unusual work. The colors are pretty monochrome. You can only feel the rather dark tones that prevail against the general background. There are practically no contrasts. The construction dominates here, the entire construction is deliberately complicated. The face of the hero is incredibly dramatic. Here, cubism is endowed with stylistic features of abstractionism.

One cannot but be struck by such an unusual angle of view that even opens the back of the head of the character of the picture to the viewer, but at the same time we do not stop seeing his face. Very soon, this particular work will become a model for Cubist artists. It is generally accepted that Picasso portrayed Vollard in the cubist style more successfully than other artists in the usual style of realism portrayed him.

Vollard helped with money to many well-known artists. Novice painters also received his support, not only financial, but also moral.

Picasso collaborated with Vollard for a long time. But he could not understand the artist’s cubism

This portrait is rightfully considered the best picture that Picasso created during his work, associated with cubism.
